Pradosham, derived from the Sanskrit words “Pra” and “Dosham,” translates to the time of removal of sins. According to Hindu mythology, Pradosham is the time when Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are most merciful and shower their blessings upon the devotees.

Worshipping Lord Siva during Pradosham helps to overcome difficulties, clear obstacles, and remove negative habits from our minds. Pradosham, a sacred time occurring at sunset on the thirteenth lunar day (trayodasi tithi), happens twice each lunar month: once during the waxing moon and once during the waning moon. Thus, Pradosha Puja is observed twice monthly at the temple.

The word “pradosham” signifies the elimination of subtle or energetic impurities. According to ancient Indian rishis, these impurities, which result from our past actions and attitudes, cause suffering and turmoil. By performing specific rituals on Trayodasi, these impurities can be cleansed.

Cleansing these karmic impurities leads to greater inner peace, improved health, and spiritual joy. As these subtle impurities are removed, our true divine qualities—such as kindness, compassion, honesty, and a commitment to selfless service—emerge.
